کچھ دنوں بعد علی دوبارہ بازار سے گزر رہا تھا کہ اس نے بوڑھے کو اپنی طرف آتے دیکھا۔ بوڑھے نے علی کی مہربانی اور سخاوت کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور کہا کہ وہ علی جیسا مہربان کبھی کسی سے نہیں ملا۔ اس کے بعد اس نے انکشاف کیا کہ وہ دراصل ایک غریب مسافر تھا جو مدینہ سے گزر رہا تھا، اور وہ علی کی مہربانی سے اس قدر متاثر ہوا کہ وہ اسے ایک خاص تحفہ دینا چاہتا تھا۔
